The Last 100 Days

As of Sunday, President Bush will have 100 days remaining in office.  If ever there was a time to rejoice at a President departing it will be in January of 2009 when George W. Bush returns to Texas.  With his poll numbers now lower than Richard Nixon’s the day he resigned and approaching the all time low recorded during the Truman administration, the American people and frankly most of the world are ready for Bush’s exit.

As for Bush himself, he’s got plenty to deal with before he passes the baton.  Bush has vowed there would be no “letting up” in the final 100 days, but I’m not sure exactly what that means for this President.  “It looks like I’m going to have a lot of work to do between today and when the new president takes office,” Bush said this past week.  Maybe if the President had been more engaged during his watch this could have been averted.

Ditto for Iraq.  Ditto for Katrina.  Ditto for global warming.

Amazing to watch the liberals descend on this man like hyena. Blind and petulant rage from people who don’t have a clue what his effect has or has not been…to blame the current financial situation on Bush is pure stupidity. NOBODY understands how this happened. It could have been Bush’s policies, or the policies of Clinton before him. These things take time. As to whether the man is a good president or not; probably not. But to blame him for the world’s woes is the mark of an imbecile child.

The policies of Clinton perhaps? You are an idiot. The wars, Katrina, the destruction of our Constitution, Blackwater, Haliburton, our present economy - ALL happened during his watch.

I keep seeing Katrina come up in things like this. Katrina was in no way his fault. It was a STATE emergency not an national emergency. The blame falls squarely with the governor and city leaders of that state and no one else.

“NOBODY understands how this happened.”

1. This happened under his watch. These things do not happen by accident.

2. He passed the Bankruptcy Act of 2005 that allowed the Bankers to place the debt burden on the Consumer – this is when we had the flood of no-doc loans, etc.

3. He allowed “Shadow Banking”, i.e., CDS’s should have been regulated.

There’s more, but you get my point.

Unfortunately for us, though this may be his official last 100 days, there have been allowances for his administration to establish a national state of emergency, institute martial law, suspend elections, and allow him to continue his presidency until such time as the national emergency is over. So, this is only HOPEFULLY his last 100 days in power.

Christ, I need a drink.

He’s been in charge the last 8 years, he’s had a republican congress for 6 of the 8 and his party has held up any legislation they didn’t like during the past two.

Who the heck else would you blame?

The federal government’s response to Katrina was a terrible failure. That’s not the fault of the local and state governments, FEMA is the agency that’s supposed to come through. Its director was busy complaining about the possibility of missing his dinner when he was supposed to visit the area.

Did you recognize the tail lights of the limo that threw you off? Was it the same limo that picked you up at election time, promising a good decent clean ride? Was George in the back seat? Will you ever learn? Last time these guys did this to you, your babies were killed in Iraq and your retirement fund spent to do it, your taxes went up, you did not get destroyed by the weapons of mass destruction, they were never found. Eight years (almost). The complete list of every insult to thinking people, to feeling people, Americans, and every citizen of the world between January 20, 2001 and January 20, 2009 is both documented elsewhere (search Hugh’s list) and almost incomprehensible (but not). To say–or write–that George W. Bush is the worst President of the United States ever is an almost ludicrous understatement. The long-term damage–and I don’t necessarily include the current economic cycle–that this…is it too disrespectful to write “BOZO?”…has inflicted on the planet is disgusting. Who remembers the policies of Polk, or Hayes, or Chester Arthur? At least they were famous instead of notorious as POTUS. Georgie Boy? Worst. Ever. Period.

Never Forget:

Simply stated, there is no doubt that Saddam Hussein now has weapons of mass destruction. ~ Dick Cheney August 26, 2002

Right now, Iraq is expanding and improving facilities that were used for the production of biological weapons. ~ George W. Bush September 12, 2002

Our intelligence officials estimate that Saddam Hussein had the materials to produce as much as 500 tons of sarin, mustard and VX nerve agent. ~ George W. Bush January 28, 2003

We know that Saddam Hussein is determined to keep his weapons of mass destruction, is determined to make more. ~ Colin Powell February 5, 2003

We have sources that tell us that Saddam Hussein recently authorized Iraqi field commanders to use chemical weapons — the very weapons the dictator tells us he does not have. ~ George Bush February 8, 2003

So has the strategic decision been made to disarm Iraq of its weapons of mass destruction by the leadership in Baghdad? I think our judgment has to be clearly not. ~ Colin Powell March 8, 2003

Intelligence gathered by this and other governments leaves no doubt that the Iraq regime continues to possess and conceal some of the most lethal weapons ever devised. ~ George Bush March 18, 2003

There is no doubt that the regime of Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of mass destruction. As this operation continues, those weapons will be identified, found, along with the people who have produced them and who guard them. ~ Gen. Tommy Franks March 22, 2003

We know where they are. They are in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad.~ Donald Rumsfeld March 30, 2003

We are learning more as we interrogate or have discussions with Iraqi scientists and people within the Iraqi structure, that perhaps he destroyed some, perhaps he dispersed some. And so we will find them. ~ George Bush April 24, 2003

There are people who in large measure have information that we need . . . so that we can track down the weapons of mass destruction in that country. ~ Donald Rumsfeld April 25, 2003

We’ll find them. It’ll be a matter of time to do so. ~ George Bush May 3, 2003

I am confident that we will find evidence that makes it clear he had weapons of mass destruction. ~ Colin Powell May 4, 2003

I’m not surprised if we begin to uncover the weapons program of Saddam Hussein — because he had a weapons program. ~ George W. Bush May 6, 2003

i’ll be the first to hate on bush but, global warming, yeah that was president bush’s fault, not the dumb ass 90s mentality created by clinton and middle class america thinking it owned the world. iraq, everyone wanted to go there, now we all want out and it won’t happen so i mean, whatever on that one. and katrina, sorry the rest of the country needs to get its collective head out of its ass. i’m from florida, you know who helped us after hurricane andrew down in coral gables? national government? wrong, cities and counties in the state of florida hold yearly contract auctions to different clean up companies to come in in case of a hurricane (asplundh normally holds a ton of contracts in florida). how about all the stranded in katrina? is everyone forgetting that new orleans is the most notoriously corrupt city in america? did we all forget that the cops were the first ones out, that there were multitudes of transportation, including busses, that could have been used and weren’t, all the horrible planning that went into hurricane preparedness (yeah let’s stick a bunch of people in a stadium we couldn’t possibly get help to if there were a flood), and lastly poor construction and upkeep on the most important part of your city. the experts said the levees couldn’t take it, that with the way the hurricane was hitting one or more would break and since NO is basically a giant bowl, the city would flood. and you know the funniest thing in all of it, those dumb asses reelected the mayor who screwed them in the first place. i hate to be so harsh, but you deserve your fate when you see that corruption and reelect the same man. i’m really sick of people blaming bush and the national government on that one, it is the city’s and state’s responsibility to have plans in place, which clearly they did not. you all realize mississppi got hit with the worst part of katrina and have you heard a peep from them? president bush did a lot of things wrong, katrina and global warming….now that’s just stupid.

The 9/11 attacks, the lack of federal response to Katrina and the economic collapse all happened under Bush’s watch and that makes them his responsibility.

He lied about the need for war in Iraq, he squandered a multi-billion dollar surplus and created one of the largest deficits in history and ballooned the size of government to sizes not seen since WWII.

He helped foster a society of hatred and intolerance.

His legacy is one of shame, embarrassment and utter incompetence.
