The First Dog?

With such weighty issues before President-Elect Obama such as 2 foreign wars, an assertive Russia and collapsing economy, it turns out the question most Americans want to know is what breed of dog will the new first family select.

On Friday, the president-elect jokingly referred to the pet-selection process as a “major issue,” saying it had generated a great deal of discussion on his website.

“We have two criteria that have to be reconciled,” Obama said. “One is that [daughter] Malia is allergic, so it has to be hypoallergenic.” Yes, he would prefer to adopt a dog from a shelter. But?

“A lot of shelter dogs are mutts, like me,” Obama said. “So whether we’re going to be able to balance those two things, I think, is a pressing issue on the Obama household.”

In a poll by the American Kennel Club, Americans chose the poodle as the “best breed for the Obamas.”

Blogflict believes the Obama family should select a Havanese. They are very-freindly, easy to train, and lack temperamental issues that arise with poodles. Plus they are really adorable, as is Riley, a Havanese from New York, pictured above.

If you have pictures of your dog or of dogs you feel would be perfect for the Obama’s let us know.

Greetings, Mr. President-Elect Obama,
We offer our warmest, sincere and happy congratulations upon your election, and wish you and your family all the best during your presidency.
We would like to offer a suggestion for your family’s puppy: the Tibetan Spaniel. He is small in stature but enormous in heart and soul. He is a most intelligent breed who thrives upon human companionship, and best of all, does not shed!
Our little Qing Dragonsong represents the best in a small dog-happy, active, extremely calm and companionable, a good watchdog, and a true gentleman.
Our Qing comes from Royal D Tibbies, Ms. Ruth Davis in Placitas, NM. Her address is P.O.Bx. 945, Placitas, NM 87043 and telephone 505-887-4510. You may also inquire of the Tibetan Spaniel Club of America, Inc. to find a local breeder if you so desire.
Again, all the best,
John and Pierrette Dougherty

Dear Barack Obama,

I have Shih Tzu puppies for you to choose from.

These wonderful dogs are protective, fun loving, loyal, and HYPO ALLERGENIC. I will be giving them their first two sets of vaccinations.

They will be 8wks old right before Thanksgiving. I can personally deliver to your home or arrange for a meeting somewhere.

These sweet babies have been raised in our home surrounded by love. They are used to being around children (my daughter already dresses them up), dogs, cats, and birds. Their mother weighs 9 pounds and their father weighs 11 pounds. They will make a perfect addition to your family.

My daughter and I are you biggest fans. We would love for your family to enjoy one of our sweet babies. Let me know if you are interested in giving one of them their forever home.

I would like to suggest a German Shepherd. I know it isn’t small and cuddly like most of the suggestions. However I have found that German Shepherds are very affectionate, well mannered, fast learners, and just plain loyal companions.

I have a shepherd too, and he is the greatest. But, he sure does shed. I don’t think it would be good for a child with allergies. I wish I had the White House staff to vacuum the hair everyday though!
