Stevens Loses Election Lead (This is Bad for Palin)
During the 2008 Presidential election Blogflict suggested that Palin’s next move could be to the US Senate if somehow Ted Stevens won his re-election bid even though he was recently convicted of a felony. Since jail time would force him out of the Senate, Stevens would be forced to resign or be expelled.
As Governor, Palin could appoint, you betcha, herself, to replace him. Being in the Senate would help Palin re-connect with party insiders in DC and around the ‘lower 48.’ Stevens lead was about 3,200 votes but as absentee ballots got counted, that lead vanished and suddenly he trails Democrat Mark Begich by 3 votes.
Palin has been busy doing interview after interview at the Republican Governors Association in Miami, where she is stirring speculation about her future. “It would be my honor to assist and support our new president and the new administration,” Palin told CNN, while reiterating her concern about Obama’s connection to William Ayers. Her path remains unclear, it is apparent that Palin has no intention of stepping off the national stage.

Regarding Sarah Palin appointing herself, it is pretty unlikely. When you get into it, it seems it is more in her interest not to. There are also some legal subtleties of here appointing herself.
