Sri Lanka Bombing Kills 39 Rebels
Since the truce between Sri Lanka and the Tamil Tigers ended earlier this year, the government has been seeking to rush the rebel movement. The defense ministry announced today a bombing campaign killed 39 rebels in Mullattivu. The target was a training facility.Â
“The enemy target had been under constant surveillance and latest air reconnaissance information has revealed intensified terrorist activity in the area,” the defense ministry statement said.
Not content to let the government be the only side to get their message out, the rebels responded by announcing they defeated the army three times as it attempted to advance into its territory on the ground on Friday.
According to the pro-tamil site, tamilnet.com, “22 Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers were killed Friday when Tigers confronted 3 different SLA attempts to advance into Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) territory in Vanni, the Tigers said. The LTTE Ma’nalaa’ru Operations Command said that the Tigers have seized two AK LMGs, two Law rockets, two T-56 assault rifles, communication equipment and ammunitions after defeating the SLA in Kokkuththoduvaay in Ma’nalaa’ru (Weli Oya) region where 15 SLA soldiers were killed.”
