Shakeup in US Election

John Edwards is dropping out this afternoon.

Rudy Giuliani is out and will be endorsing John McCain later today in California.

The Democratic field narrows to Obama and Clinton, while the Republican field now has a clear front runner in John McCain, followed closely by the well financed Mitt Romney. Mike Huckabee remains in the race but is beginning to look more like a stalking horse for McCain than a serious national candidate for President. It has been rumored that the McCain camp is urging Huckabee to stay in the race and has even promised to help retire campaign debt for Huckabee, should McCain be the party nominee.

John Edwards’ early demise is the perfect example of the expression, “Nice guys finish last.” With Hillary and Barack wanting the nomination so desperately, Edwards appeared very dull by comparison. It is a shame he already ran with Kerry for Vice President, because he would be a nice addition to either of these tickets.
