Serbia has decided to hold elections in serb occupied regions of Kosovo. The problem? Kosovo declared independence from Serbia last month, making it a separate nation.  But Serbia has not recognized this independence and is now acting accordingly.

“Kosovo is part of Serbia and parliamentary and local elections will be held in this territory,” Slobodan Samardzic said after meeting local Kosovo Serb leaders.

Clearly, Serbia is not prepared to accept an independent Kosovo, and the international community needs to stay aware that this potential powder keg in the Balkans remains very active.
