The death of a second opposition member of parliament in Kenya has put a halt to peace talks. Just how long these talks remain grounded is unknown. Right now the only constant in Kenya is violence.

CNN reports, “David Too was shot dead Thursday in the Rift Valley town of Eldoret amid fresh violence and protests following last month’s disputed presidential election. Former U.N. chief Kofi Annan, who had been mediating in the discussions, agreed to interrupt the afternoon session following news of the killing, a U.N. spokesman told CNN.”

Raila Odinga, the opposition leader, claims the assassination of the two elected officials is an attempt by the ruling party to limit the numbers of opposition members in parliament. “I condemn this second execution of an ODM member of parliament. The purpose of this killing is to reduce the ODM majority,” he said.
