The death toll from the violence in Kenya continues to grow.  The latest figure comes from opposition leader Raila Odinga who now believes 1,000 people have been killed since the disputed election returns were announced.  But there is a ray of  hope as Odinga’s party has it halted protests and President Mwai Kibaki invited his main rival to talks.

Blogflict received an email earlier today from a user in Kenya.   “We are ok, things are almost back to normal now…the ones am seeing on international media (pictures) are kinda exaggerated!  Come on give the right news people and don’t make it sound like Kenya is going through world war three!  Currently traveling has resumed…We as Kenyans are just praying for peace here, yesterday there were national prayers and we are hoping to continue with peaceful negotiations…”

It was the fist email we have received since the crises began that sounded optimistic in tone.  Let’s hope this continues.
