Russia is letting the world know exactly how they feel about Kosovo’s independence.  And they are also making clear their displeasure over it.

The election to determine the next Russian President isn’t until March 2nd, but it doesn’t take a degree in political science to know that Dmitri Medvedev, the first deputy prime minister, will become President (since he was tapped for the position by Vladimir Putin).

However, it could take a degree in political science to fully understand the complex political landscape within the powder keg of Kosovo and how it may effect relations between Russia, Europe and the US.  As international pressure brews, it is clear that the issue of Kosovo independence is not yet resolved.

Medvedev told reporters in Belgrade, “We proceed from the understanding that Serbia is a single state with its jurisdiction spanning its entire territory, and we will stick to this principled stance in the future.”  He also called belittled the statehood recognition that was given to Kosovo by nations in Europe and America.
But the US today reiterated its support for Kosovo. “We are going to continue to try to work with both the Russians and the Serbs on this, but I think that it ought to be clear to everybody at this point that Kosovo is never going to be a part of Serbia again,” Tom Casey, a State Department spokesman said.

Others in Russia continue to float the notion that military force is not off the table in the region.  Sergey Lavrov added that “the question of using force to hold back Serbs who do not want to remain under Pristina’s authority … is being seriously discussed.”

“With Kosovo now the gun has been cocked and no one knows when and where the shot will ring out,” said Anatoly Safonov, Putin’s envoy for international cooperation in combating terrorism and organized crime.

I think it is mighty fine of those Russians to help boost the Serbian economy by refurbishing their oil plant.

If this was to happen here in the USA, that a certain religious organization migrated into the US and declaired the land they settled on as independant from the US, I’m sure this would open a floodgate of dissension. I don’t beleive that people should be able to force their beleif in false gods onto their children or their neighbors.

I think we should safeguard this by passing laws preventing ritualized routine sexual mutilation and traumatic terrorism of infants or mens prepuces against their will. This will slow down the progression of the basic causes of terrorism in the hearts of men.
