Palin Rambles on Entitlements
Did anyone notice that Gov. Palin seemed confused when the issue of entitlements came up in her interview with Charlie Gibson? I know the republicans use her lack of Washington experience as a plus, but you don’t have to live within the beltway to know the 101’s of Social Security.
Q: Do you talk about entitlement reform? Is there money you can save in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid?”
A: “I am sure that there are efficiencies that are going to be found in all of those agencies. I am confident in that.”
Hu? Um, agencies aren’t involved in entitlements, Gibson explained.
Palin then began her rambling….
“We have certainly seen excess in agencies, though, and in — when bureaucrats, when bureaucracy just gets kind of comfortable, going with the status-quo and not being challenged to find efficiencies and spend other people’s money wisely, then that’s where we get into the situation that we are into today, and that is a tremendous growth of government, a huge debt, trillions of dollars of debt that we’re passing on to my kids and your kids and your grandkids…It’s unacceptable.”
The only thing unacceptable is her answer and the fact that she might be only one heartbeat away from the Presidency.

I agree! The most unaccepable to me is that some people believe it would be great if she was the pres. with McCain age I can’t believe that so many don’t see that she truly has no understanding of what going on. Can’t believe American care this little.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 4:50 pmShe is clearly not fit to be vice-president and we Democrats are not going to let the Republicans shove her down the American people’s throats. But I am wondering what Biden is doing. He seems to not be interested in winning. Is he a plant for McCain, his friend, something he keeps repeating like a broken record? Like we Democrats want to hear that he is McCain’s lifelong buddy. Or is he “biding” his time? We are trying to win. Not just for the sake of winning but because we are not thrilled with the way we have been living for the last 8 years.
But we can’t allow the wicked witch of the west(Palin)to get into office. She hides behind God and does so much evil she could fill up the Pacific Ocean! She is a Republican puppet whose strings are being dangled and she is dancing to the tune of 4 more years of George Bush.
Yesterday I saw a man jump out of his seat and scream at Obama, “We gave you our money. When are you going to fight back?” We are still winning. It doesn’t matter what the polls say. The electoral votes are what matter. Let’s keep them and get more. I believe the Republicans are going to hang themselves with their lies. We don’t have to lie. Their record stands on its own. And its ugly.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 4:58 pmQUESTION:
IS PALIN QUALIFIED COMPARED TO OBAMA ?
ANSWER:
http://townhall.com/blog/g/cba8713c-ef73-4ebc-aa5e-bc53e6596e2a&comments=true
Once again … if you compare McCain/Palin’s track record with Obama/Biden’s, it’s no contest. McCain/Palin are a hundred times more qualified to lead this country. McCain/Palin show scores of actual achievements and solid service to America, while once again, Obama’s track record is one of excessive absences from his responsibilities, and all talk with no actual experience, or contributions to America.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 5:33 pmLike Governor Palin has pointed out … Obama had the time to write two memoirs, but never wrote one piece of significant legislation … not even when he was in the state legislature. Regarding earmarks, and the economy … If Obama gets elected, his irresponsible and clueless ideas for shifting shifting America’s wealth would turn the U.S.A. into a third world country, with businesses laying off employees to keep their doors open. Obama’s ideas for national security would de-fang America and make us weak, putting us at the mercy of the world’s tyrants.
Let’s see - you don’t have to live in the beltway to understand. What an ill informed comment. It’s not that most Americans don’t understand - they - like you -don’t want to.
Social security is a trust. It was set up by the government to be self sufficient and separate from the general fund. A Democratic party President and Democratic party controlled Congress changed the law and let the government tap into that trust fund. Made them look good and secured reelection for many. You actually want to set the country up for similar stunts with health care and energy? I guess they really did stop teaching civics and government in the public school system.
Sarah Palin has more EXECUTIVE experience than Obama or Biden. She has had to balance government budget and has a track record of cutting wasteful spending while lowering taxes to achieve this. Barack Obama and Joe Biden have records of requesting vast sums of money in earmarks. Including and earmark to Michelle Obama’s employer. She got a substantial raise.
Obama has an energy policy that does not include drilling. Nevermind that this would create jobs immediately, result in the USA providing more of our own oil, and make us an oil exporter when his alternative energy policies work - if they did. Two million barrels a day at $100/barrel - 70 BILLION dollars a year thrown away because we didn’t start drilling. Guess he doesn’t care so much about jobs and the economy after all.
Palin has the right ideas and will be a superb advisor to President McCain. They are the only reasonable choice.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 5:52 pmGina,
Please lookup the facts. If not, they you deserve what you will get with McCain/Palin if they win.
The sad part is, you will bring the rest of us down with your ignorance.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 5:55 pmI was not impressed at all by this interview. Does she know what an entitlement is? She had no clue about the Bush Doctrine. Yikes.
So far she has had one interview with the media since the VP announcement and it was mediocre, at best. Yes, I have more in common with her than I do with the other candidates, but I want someone who knows a heck of a lot more than I do in the VP office. I liked McCain a whole lot more before this pick. There are plenty of very capable, knowledgable women in the Republican party. I don’t get it.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 6:10 pmPeter, the ignorant will remain ignorant because they are comfortable that way and do not intend to look for facts. Gina is typical of the people populating this country, who are allowing their bias to rule their feeble brains. I only pray that Obama and Biden will continue to reach out and set the record straight in light of the lies being spewed by both McCain and Palin. Let us pray that the right thing will happen and that this evil agenda will not steal the election for a 3rd time.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 6:16 pmIt was clear she had no idea what “entitlements” were.
I thought she had a couple of strange answers. Like when Gibson asked about her national security credentials, she talked about energy.
To Bruce: Are you aware that even if we start off shore drilling it will be at least 10 years before we see any oil, and then we will only produce enough to lower the price of gas maybe 5 cents? That is why Barack Obama has pledged to find alternative energy sources so that we can be free of dependence of foreign oil within 10 years… the same time it would take to start seeing any benefit from drilling our own oil.
It isn’t like what happened to Jeb Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 6:48 pmAs to Social Security - are you all aware that wages over $102,000 are not subject to Social Security Withholding? So the guy making $45,000 a year is having 7.65% withheld from his paycheck for social security and medicare, but the guy making a salary of say, $250,000 is only having the medicare portion withheld, or 1.45%.
Alan Greenspan says that if we removed the cap for Social Security wages, it would secure the base indefinitely.
Once, again, the rich get richer. Instead of exempting wages over $102,000 wouldn’t it make more sense to exempt the first $10,000?
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 6:57 pmWhoa, nice comments guys. Keep fighting online while people are suffering both in the U.S and across the world from Iraq, to Sudan and others.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 9:36 pmThis is the reason I became an independent voter. The truth is some of you will deny the TRUTH just to support your party. If the truth is then important to the security and stability of this great country, is that not Treason (close-sort of)?
I remember how people lied by using the internet and tv-ads to discredit the candidates on both sides during Bush v. Kerry. And now we all fight each other over who is the best person to lead.
All your arguments are all SILLY, if BUSH can serve as the president for the last eight years, with close to 50% of the country voting for him, ANYONE (McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden) can lead and be the next president. They are all “somewhat” qualified and won’t change much thanks to the lobbyist making millions in DC.
Blah blah blah
Politics are politics
The current set of politicos and fringers on both sides are stumped on how to respond effectively to either Palin OR Obama. Neither fits the mold and neither says much that is substantive OR of controversy in the real work. Vapid columns designed to cheer up the fringe choirs are pretty much a waste of ink (or electrons) Indignant posts from either side’s fringe are hardly of any matter including the blog above and most of the responses.
Give something other than silly syncophantic rants such as above and you might just sway someone other than your spouses and coffee klatch buddies.

I always find it funny that “fake” environmentalists require a heavy government with its wasteful, inefficient, and destructive behaviour. Yet still more government they require.
Spot a fake environmentalist; win a prize.
Comment made on September 13th, 2008 at 11:31 pmThe more important thing now is to investigate the corruption of Obama.
Obama was sponsored $250,000 by corrupt and convicte slumlord, Rezko. Obama ignored housing
violations in 11 of the 30 housing projects in Obama’s constituency.
Obama also got a $300,000 discount by Rezko who bought the lot next door to enable Obama to
buy the house for $1.65 million dollar. Rezko can only gain access to the lot though Obama’s
house and never develop the lot.
Michelle Obama’s salary jumped from $121,000 prior to Obama’s election to Senate to $360,000
after his election. One of Obama’s earmarks is to provide $1 million to Michelle’ employer
for the construction of a pavilion.
Obama spend $1 billions in earmarks in 4 years. The same kind of politics.
All along, Obama has been the greatest marketeer. He could be the greatest salesman who
reinvented himself. People wants to believe him because he is good at using buzzwords such
as hope and change. I wish that people would be less naive.
It is a race thing. The African American community are flocking to him because he is African
American. I can see the author is an Asian American. As an Asian American, I am appalled
that people cannot see through the facade or the hypocrisy of this corrupt man who practise
the worst kind of politics, based on racism…based on popularity…People should look at
Obama who has never been moderate. He do whatever is needed to win, even walk away from his
integrity to cooperate with a corrupt slumlord, Rezko.
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 12:56 amPalin is now becoming an liability to Mccain. After watching her interview her views how can anyone possibly not think Mccain chose her to only put a female on the ticket and that is all. Her answers are a liability to Mccain and its a shame Mccain keeps continue to campaing with her. Does she know anything about losing jobs, dropping home prices, tax cuts to middle class, or is she to interwined with oil corporations.
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 1:04 amGovernor Palin if elected would only be a heartbeat away from the presidency which is not acceptable due to her record which is mixed. Americans, the Real Issue right now is the top of the ticket, Senator McCain who has voted 90-95% with the failed Bush policies that have caused: Record deficits/The Iraq War and the dollars that pay for it, while the government stockpiles oil money for whatever it wants while Americans are losing homes/IndyMac/Lehman/Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae/
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 1:30 amother banks/individual and corporate bankruptcies/predatory lending practices not monitored/etc. etc. etc. John McCain the maverick never challenged these issues until he decided to run for office and that was the surge—-while more of our troops are dying in Afghanistan and no capture of Bin Laudin………THESE ARE THE REAL ISSUES AND OTHERS THAT ARE NUMEROUS….”No Child Left Behind”…thousands of students that have dropped out of school especially in major cities…
Greenspan’s assessment of the McCain economic plan which he said will cause more economic problems as written…..If you are 3/5 of a trillion in debt, how can you reduce the debt by cutting taxes…you add to the debt which will boomerang 2-3 years later. Greenspan says you can cut taxes but you have to cut government and that means jobs, services etc…..so if you are willing to give up something, then vote for McCain. Perhaps you won’t have a job so cutting taxes won’t mean anything…..think about it….one of the best Federal Board Chairman in history—worked with the economic reform of President Clinton spoke about this today 2 days ago……
So the wolves have left the hen house and are now crying “Beware of wolves, we are here to protect you!” The idea that McCain/Palin can or will reform anything or try to lead with a moral base has been exposed as a lie. All you Repubs out there who claim high ground on being “right” explain to me your continued support for two candidates who are either clueless, incompetent, or simply callous to the notion that honesty MEANS something. I know, its the mean spirited “liberal media” boogie monster distorting all of McCain’s words, right? Hear are a few REAL numbers to ponder: As of mid 2008 a $734 billion deficit over the past three budget years, 36.5 million Americans living in poverty, a $9.2 trillion national debt, a $759 billion U.S. trade deficit, $747 million uninsured Americans, a 100% increase in the average health insurance premiums for a family of four since 2001, gasoline that has gone from an average of $1.39 per gallon in 2001 to a current $3.67, a U.S. dollar worth 1.07 Euros per dollar in 2001 to 1.07 Euros mid 2008, and an international poll that shows that even amongst our traditional allies our positive rating abroad has dropped from 58% to 39%! McCain states that letting the Bush largess for the wealthy tax cuts expire would hurt business and result in loss of jobs…I don’t think the country can afford any more Republican “good times”, unless you want to ignore economic reality. By the way, you wingers out there might not like the aforementioned numbers, but they are real and available in the public domain. Look them up…

Sarah Palin:
Lie 1: She sold the jet on Ebay for profit (lied on both accounts)
Lie 2: She took no earmarks
Lie 3: She is the one who stopped the building of the Bridge to NoWhere
Lie 4: She was never in Iraq as reported and only got as far as the Kuwait border. She also never “visited” Finland but the jet stopped there to refuel.
And still we have Troopergate looming and Palin is trying to block the subpoena’s. Nothing to hide then why block the subpoena’s?
I don’t like someone who blatantly lies and her lies are on after another.

Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 9:06 amA few things that a vice-presidential candidate should be able to do:
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 10:40 am1. Be able to pronounce the word “nuclear”.
2. Understand the simple basics of social security.
3. Speak the truth, and should the need to lie arise, lie so well that there would be no way that factcheck.org would find out.
Obama gets the the interviewers gushing at his feet and Palin gets a scowling Gibson, gee who wouldn’t get a little rattled. Obama says more Ahs per sentence than anyone I know, but the MSM sees this as his being ‘thoughtful’, but in Palin it is lack of conviction.
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 10:42 amWhen Obama loses, OK, if he loses, the MSM is going to wonder what went wrong. You can’t pay for the free coverage he’s gotten, if someone were to calculate it it’s probably in the trillions of dollars worth of free ad time.
The deal is this: Those of us who will not vote for him do not believe he never heard Rev Wright say inflammatory statements, we don’t bellieve Ayers was just a guy in his neighborhood who sent his kids to the same school as the Obamas, we don’t believe the only money he got from Rezko was in the form of a garden next to his house, we don’t believe he does not remember meeting Auchi, and we don’t believe there is not a connection between Auchi & Saddam Hussien and Obama, we don’t believe that he cares about anyone but himself. We don’t believe Obama should have campaigned when he was a US Senator in Kenya for his cousin, Raila Odinga, who vowed to bring Sharia law to Kenya, we do not believe sharia law recognizes the basic human rights of women, we do believe that his public support in Kenya of Raila Odinga gave the impression that he hhad US support and we do believe that Obama showed a lack of understanding of US Foreign Policy doing so and that that action (the press has given little attention to) shows he is not ready to be POITUS or he is too corrupt to be POTUS.
We do believe that most of his supporters believe his words and we do believe that they are nice earnest people, but we do not believe that the MSM is. We are angry that all these nice earnest people are being taken for fools and not given the whole story.
To Obama the word change is just a campaign slogan, whereas McCain and Palin have actually brought about substantive changes in government. Changes which have helped Americans, while Obama has spent his career just talking about it. Obama has spent most of his time in public office absent from his responsibilities, while ambitiously running for the next rung in the ladder, not to serve the people, but rather to further his own position. And, I’m sure most people could relate to McCain and Palin as fellow Americans, more than they can to the Obamas, who chose to spend TWENTY YEARS in the radical anti-American racist church of Jeremiah Wright … and chose unsavory associates, such as Farrakhan, Pfleger, Rezko, Ayers, etc.. As for Obama’s phony indignation about being a community organizer … Palin never criticized those efforts, she merely, and rightfully questioned it as being the sole experience and credentials for someone to use as qualifications to become President of the United States … and, even then, it was in response to Obama’s attacks at Palin for being the mayor of a small town, when he also neglected to mention that she was Governor as well.

Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 11:27 amera has brought this country to its knees! I hope that EVERY Republican in office is voted OUT!
Then the Democrates will have no reason or excuse to prove they can help our country. If they don’t then throw them out in 4yrs. and try the Republicans! NEITHER
Putin, and other world leaders who are not crazy about us, and there are many, are watching what is going on over here. They are gearing up for the day McCain/Palin are in office and what could happen to a sick, elderly president. They would have to deal with Palin who is a liar, cheater, corrupt politician and is good at all of them. They would not believe anything that comes out of her mouth and would act accordingly. This is what our country has to look forward to if McCain and Palin get into office.
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 11:27 amNEITHER party is going to fix all of the problems we now have thanks to Bush, in the next 4yrs
Comment made on September 14th, 2008 at 11:28 amFirst off. Those who constantly state “Palin is right for the job!” are ignoring sheer volumes of facts, and are continuing to assume what they are told is the facts:
Gina,
First off, just stating one website, which pretty much resembles the outline of Republican smear tatics (go figure) does not count as facts. Have you ever done any REAL research? I’m only 19 and I’m pretty sure that I’ve done more research into all of this before you. You said that if you compare the McCain/Palin ticket to the Biden/Obama ticket that it is no “contest” because mccain/palin are a hundred more times qualified to lead this country. Yet, surprisingly, you show no evidence to back your claims. I’ll show you some facts.
For when it comes to voting on such issues, Senator McCain offered NO VOTE for the following Bills in Congress.
-Low Income Home Energy Assistance Funds
-House Forclosure Assistance Programs
-State Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP)reauthorization (Senator McCain originally voted no for this, and a NV, No Vote, was recorded the second time the bill was proposed
Now you can vew those FACTS here: http://www.votesmart.org/voting_category.php?can_id=53270&type=category&category=67&go.x=19&go.y=8
Basically what does that say about Senator McCain in general when it comes to the American People? Last time I knew, the lower class were Americans too, not just the rich. Not since 1996, that’s right twelve years ago, has McCain supported Welfare and Poverty Issues or either he simply has not voted or was absent. You sit here and tell us hes right for America? Of course I would hope pure ignorance and Bliss would not ignore those statistics, those facts, rather than just make assumptions.
What has Palin done so far that would constitute you to believe that she is right for America? My god, did you watch her interview with Charles Gibson? I’m sorry but someone who doesn’t even know what the issues are, and has to define them every time she is asked has only amounted to one thing. She does not have the suffecient experience to handle the Vice Presidential seat. Period. Here’s some of Palins “Great deeds that would sure make her a leader!” :Note the sense of sarcasm in my voice.
– Palin left her small town of Wasilla, 20 Million Dollars in debt:

NOTE: Have you noticed how many issues here are sourced by the Anchorange Daily News? Anchorange is in Alaska, which I’m sure you know. Plus we’ve got sources like the Washinton Post, the Seattle Times, The Associated Press, Bloomberg Report, Politico.
So tell me Gina, HOW is Palin ready to lead? She was a mayor that left a Alaskan city, smaller than my hometown of Erie Pa, in 20 Million in Debt. Palin is known to have ties with Lobbyists, just as McCain…. Oh and have you ever heard of the Keating Five Incident?
It’s not a big deal…well yes it is. In 1989 5 senators were accused of corruption as part of the savings and loan crisis of the early 1980s and 90s. and guess who was a part of that? John McCain.
you would be wise to search it on google. What you find may surprise you. Of course then again I’m sure if Senator McCain was in front of you and told you that whatever happened in that situation was false, you’d fly past pretenses and assume his tempermental judgment.
And being a governer of an Alaskan town does not make you a maverick. So Palin a maverick? er no. Someone who states that Iraq is “gods will” is clearly out of the loop (See Source here: http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/09/02/sarah-palin-iraq-war-gods-plan/)
Someone who states that gods will is basically to march into another country, basically take over their soveriegnty(sp?) and their government, etc and while over 3,000 of our troops dies, is not a Maverick. they are a disgrace to the American people.
By the way Gina, do you know how many houses you own? if not its ok, John McCain sure doesn’t.

You know, it always amazes me how we always talk about how great this country is and how great the people of this country is. Honestly, whenever I hear or read about things like this, or I hear someone saying, or even considering to say: Is America ready for a black president?
It just makes me sick to my stomach to realize that in this great country there are people so stupid that can’t look at the things that matter, but instead are still looking at vain and shallow things like the color of someone’s skin.
The even sadder part of all this? And I say this being a Christian myself, this people most of the time claim to be Christians. Pardon me, but how can you claim to be a christian and look at yourself and know that God is looking at you as well, and have peace in your heart?
Read the Bible, since I don’t think you’ll be able to find the right verse (because you probably don’t read the Bible), here are some for you:
Matthew: 7:1-5

Galatians: 3:26
James: 2:1
James: 2:8
I watched the Gibson/Palin interview 3 times. I had to keep watching it because I couldn’t believe what I had just seen. She didn’t have a clue what she was talking about. On any question. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
This is a woman who went to 5 schools to get her journalism certificate. She was on radio for 2 months and then Mayor of a town of 5500. Sorry folks but when you are Mayor, you have several advisors to help you thru, give you advice and tell you how things are done. Once she became comfortable with her job, she fired those that had helped her and brought in her pals.
Then she made Governor. In a state that has more Caribu than people. One person every square mile. Again with advisors, again with her making enemies.
She’s a user and doesn’t care who she kicks to the curb on her climb to fame. And now we have her dumped in our laps with one lie after another coming from her. Six lies, at my last count which isn’t bad considering she’s only been around 3 weeks.
Cain belongs in a nursing home instead of The White House with this kind of judgement.
