Obama Wins 1st Debate
Yes, it was a close call and I can see how ardent republicans will try and claim victory. Obama looked at times like he was a student who just finished cramming for an exam. Other times he looked as if he was searching for words. But to independent observers it didn’t matter much. He won the debate.
Obama successfully tied McCain to Bush and to the failed policies of yesterday. McCain almost unwittingly, played into that by consistently referring to the past (including his mentions of Dr. Kissinger.) If the race is about the past versus the future then we all know who the winner is going to be. McCain tried, smartly, to pull in independents by talking about his bipartisanship, but I would be surprised if in 24 hours from now, Obama doesn’t add another 2 points to his lead.
McCain needs to do a better job explaining how he is not going to be Bush III. Obama needs to be a little more sharper in his attacks. Debate 1 is over. The most anticipated VP debate EVER is on deck.
