Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf has his back against the wall and is looking for some way, anyway to remain in power. After his party was trounced in the election on February 18th, there are few options for Musharraf to consider. Here’s one - ask a foreign nation to revisit 10-year old corruption charges on your political opponent.

Lawyers for Musharraf asked a Geneva court to prosecute Asif Zardari - whose Pakistan People’s party won the most seats in Monday’s election - on allegations first made in 1998, that Zardari placed $55m in kickbacks in a Swiss bank account.

According to the Gaurdian, who reported the story first on Thursday, “The move was seen as a pressure tactic against Zardari, the husband of the assassinated Benazir Bhutto, as he prepared to start negotiations later today for a coalition government with the second-placed opposition leader, Nawaz Sharif, who has campaigned to oust Musharraf.”
