Mr. Bush Goes to Africa
Posted on February 16, 2008 - Filed Under AIDS, Africa, Bush |
For the second time in his presidency, George Bush is visiting Africa.
Perhaps the most positive enduring legacy of the Bush Admininstration will be the funding it alloted for wildly successful programs in Africa that have helped those struggling with HIV/AIDS and other aliments common in impoverished nations.
Bush wants his trip to focus on the successes in Africa, not the failures. “This is a large place with a lot of nations and no question not everything is perfect. On the other hand, there are a lot of great success stories and the United States is pleased to be involved with those success stories.”
Certainly all is not well in Africa right now, particularly in Kenya where negotiators are still working for a political solution to the recent violence there. “The key is that the leaders hear from her first hand that the United States desires to see that there be no violence and that there be a power-sharing agreement that will help this nation resolve its difficulties,” Bush told reporters.Â
Although widely overshadowed by the Iraq War, the grants made available to African nations to fight malaria, HIV, and to reform their government infrastructure have been an incredible success. President Bush is considered a hero to many in Africa who are afraid that the “Bush Fund” will no longer exist once he leaves office. While the US and Bush are held in low public approval abroad, in Africa both are held in high regard.

Bush and USA should take Aids more serious. If all of Africa get Aids world must pay attention. Wildfire run wil in California of USA and people look. But AIDS run wild in Africa and nobody listen. Kuteka Lesa ke kumweka bwishi ne.
Great points both of you!
Great Bush comes to Africa. For Liberia the only thing I think Bush Fund has done here(Liberia) is provide expatriates with flashy cars and expensive hotel. On the other hand the ordinary man now have to contend with increase transportation cost and lodging. So many INGOs are here and consuming most of the billions sent to Africa while AIDS, maliria, and other curable diseases continue to rage.
Thanks Bush
Appreciations to Mr Bush but I wish he can spend some money on Improving education in Africa, cause thats were the answer lies to all this delinquency.
