Letter from “A Christian from 2012″

Focus on the Family Action has circulated a letter purported to be written by a Christian person living in 2012. I know evangelicals are close with God, but I didn’t realize they had the ability to travel forward into the future and report back to us on what happened in the years since today. It would be great if they could also tell us if the Rays or Phillies are going to win the World Series. But this is a serious matter and thanks to our friend, “a Christian from 2012″ is able to report to us that President Obama will make homosexual education mandatory, take away your Bible, fail to defend Israel which is destroyed by a nuclear bomb sent from Iran, and there will be lots and lots of pornography on TV.

Ok, so on the first page Focus on the Family Action warns us that this letter is not real, but it does say that what is outlined in the letter will happen based on “established legal and political trends.”

Could this letter be the tipping point that turns the election back to McCain? Or, could it just be another example of why Americans, even deeply religious Americans, are growing tired of the religious fervor and radicalism that has peculating its way into the Republican party?

Read the letter here, its a read doozy.

I wonder how this animosity towards democrats evolved to the point where right wing republicans feel justified in lying and planting seeds of hatred in a desperate attempt to win an election.

Just let me say that I am middle-class, Christian, heterosexual American. I own my own “small business” and my own home. I am married to a 25-year Navy veteran. And I am a democrat. I am a democrat because I align myself more closely with the values and platforms of the democratic party than I do the republicans. I have made this decision with an open mind and after thorough research. Reading a letter such as this one makes me very angry. It reaks of bigotry and hate mongering. It should be rejected by all republicans.

I am old enough to remember when people were afraid of John Kennedy because he was a catholic. I also remember that Ronald Reagan was frowned upon for being divorced and there was a great deal of fear that he would bring the corruption of Hollywood to the White House. I remember as well when Mohammed Ali was Cassius Clay. He refused to go to Viet Nam because the Quran would not allow him to fight in a white man’s war. And yet this self-proclaimed disciple of Islam was given the Presidential Metal of Freedom by George W. Bush himself.

Barack Obama is a Christian and always has been. He has stated publicly, as has his running mate, that he does not support gay marriage. John McCain does not support a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Dick Cheney, on the other hand, has a gay daughter and stated that he believes “all Americans have the right to be happy.”

There is no place in politics for the filth being pushed by this radical group. I only hope Americans see it for the trash it truly is. Pushing an agenda such as this one would be truly dangerous.

Right … And why should any of that be a bad thing?

I’m Christian, and I have a serious problem with people that stigmatize entire groups based on their choices. All the laws that equalize homosexuality can’t end up being *that* bad.

Just because they’re allowed to be homosexual doesn’t mean that everyone’s suddenly going to run off to a gay marriage. What it will do, I’m sure, is lift a lot of the veils of fear and mistrust between hetrosexuals and homosexuals.

And since when is it the US’s job to defend other countries? If anything, US intervention has caused more problems than solutions internationally. Another thing this letter doesn’t cover is that, if international operations are scaled back, the exorbitant defense spending will undoubtedly drop, removing the need for large tax increases to cover the national deficit.

This letter also mentions nothing about Obama’s intentions to cut back on outsourcing, and deliver more jobs to the local US citizens. I would imagine, by now, the light industry and IT industries could use the boosts afforded by this.
Also, by cutting down on imports, lots of money will be kept within the US, aiding in the fight against the deficit.

The copious amount of porno argument is also flawed. TV schedules are dictated by supply, demand and ratings. If everyone suddenly does porn 24/7, how quickly do you think viewership is going to drop off? Enabling isn’t enforcing, ffs.

I think the fear around churches becoming state property are a little overblown. Even if it all goes to shit, it doesn’t change the fact that the highest goal for any Christian is to follow Christ. And you can do that without owning a business or running a congregation. Heck - there are people in China doing that right now, and their government’s anything but helpful.

So please, “Focus on the Family” - STFU.

So, Democrats can fictionalize/sensationalize anything to get their point across, but conservative Christians cannot? If the lies and views espoused by Obama are any indication of what life will be like in his “presidency” then we (you and I) are in deep trouble. We have been on a slippery slope towards secularism and utter evil for a long time now; a Democrat controlled government will put Teflon on that slope. I am thankful there are people like Dr. Dobson who see it like it is and call it that way. I do the same, but I am not nearly as nice about it as Dr. Dobson. This country is being infiltrated from all directions and Americans are asleep at the wheel. When America goes, kiss the free world as you know it goodbye.

I read through some of the letter, and I must say, these people do not believe in this country. They are lamenting in the letter that the secrecy of the Bush administration was reversed and that dozens of former officials are in Jail for crimes they committed! WHY IN GOD’S NAME would it be a pity to bring these criminals to justice who violated the CONSTITUTION OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WHILE CLAIMING THEY WERE PROTECTING THE COUNTRY?!

From what I have seen, even in the Christian community, this letter has provoked outrage from all but the farthest right. Hundreds of people claiming to be Christians have sent letters to Dobson, denouncing his tactics. So if anything, I think it hurt McCain.
