Kenyan Opposition Cancel Rally as Death Toll Climbs to 482
482 are now confirmed dead in the violence that continues to plague Kenya.
Kenyan opposition leaders have canceled protests, now for the third time, Â planned for Tuesday as they wait for Ghana’s president to arrive that evening to begin mediation efforts aimed at ending the violence.Â
Both sides in the disputed election have indicated that they are open to talks, but so far they have not sat down in an attempt to resolve the issues steming from the election results.Â
The chief U.S. envoy for Africa, who tried to negotiate a settlement, said Kenyans “have been cheated by their political leadership and their institutions.” In particular, Jendayi Frazer said, the electoral commission was flawed and needed reform.
