Kenya Erupts in Violence: “This country is going to turn into a war zone”

All live television broadcasts have been ordered off the air by Kenya’s government.  Protesters have turned into rioters.  The peace leading up to the election has been shattered.

Moments after Kenya’s ruling party was narrowly declared victorious, despite early returns that showed the opposition well-ahead,  President Mwai Kibaki government began a crackdown on media reports in the country.

As the country now teeters in danger of civil war, all hopes have been dashed for a peaceful and successful democratic election.  Kenya is one of the more stable nations in Africa and this kind of turbulence is exactly what the region was hoping to avoid.

If the media goes silent, perhaps citizen journalists in the country can get online to provide the rest of the world with updates as they occur.

This is a war of elite Kikuyus against the rest of Kenyans. Kenyans have been robbed of their democratic and constitutional rights

Kenya is our country and I would like to appel to the rest of the world to help us get this dictator out of power. We voted and the counting was done, why doctor the results? Was there any need for the votes if the decision on the winner could be reached in the boardroom without the reard for our votes?
Why the fear, why the media black-out? why? why?
Is this what the US call democracy?
    Aluta continua

I’m glad Kenyans abroad and in Kenya are coming together to demand that democracy prevail. I’m so proud of those who are preaching unity and peace but protesting the results and demanding action.
