The AP is reporting:
East Timor President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jose Ramos-Horta was wounded in a pre-dawn attack on his home Monday morning, an army spokesman said.
It was unclear what condition Ramos-Horta was in, army spokesman Maj. Domingos da Camara said. A guard was killed in the attack.
A rebel soldier wanted on murder charges for a flare-up of violence in 2006 was killed by return gunfire from house guards, the spokesman said.
Ramos-Horta shared the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize with countryman Bishop Carlos Belo for leading a nonviolent struggle against the Indonesian occupation.
Update: Ramos-Horta is now in Australia to receive medical attention. He arrived on life-support and was listed in critical condition.
