In the end, it wasn’t even close.
“We concede and congratulate the people who have won the elections,” Mushahid Syed Hussain, general secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q, the political party of Pervez Musharraf.
While the final results will not be known until later today or tomorrow, the margin of victory is so large that the opposition parties should have no trouble gaining a large majority in the Pakistani Parliament.
Even though Musharraf was recently re-elected, the new legislative body appears to have the votes to impeach him.
The election was seen as a referendum on Musharraf and also the Bush Administration.  The White House has backed him as a key ally in the war on terror. Many Pakistani’s feel that under the guise of fighting terror Musharraf has instituted undemocratic policies.
