Citizen Journalist Killed in Iraq
Posted on December 16, 2007 - Filed Under Iraq, citizen journalism |
History will probably not recall the life or death of Ali Shafeya Al-Moussaw, but it should. He was only 22 years old. He was shot 31 times. Ali was a citizen journalist for the blog, Alive in Baghdad. Some of the best reporting from Iraq, by traditional journalists or otherwise, comes from this blog.
Reporting from conflict zones can be incredibly dangerous. Those who attack reporters don’t stop look for a press pass or media credential. They treat reporters of any kind all the same.
A fund has been started for Ali’s family. If you would like to contribute, click here.

Alive in Baghdad is a great site and I hope they continue and carry on in Ali’s name. I know in the past few months they were really short on funds since they aren’t owned by GE, Viacom, or Disney like major media outlets. But it doesn’t make their potential impact any less powerful.
