As international pressure on China continues to swell, the Chinese government is ratcheting up its offensive against the protesters in Tibet.

China issued a “Most Wanted” list of 21 rioters and released images of them waving knives and fighting during the protests over Chinese Rule in Tibet last week. The leading newspaper of China’s Communist Party today called for all efforts to “resolutely crush” anti-government demonstrations in Tibet. The newspaper tells its readers,”we must see through the secessionist forces’ evil intentions.”

The Associated Press is reporting, “Chinese authorities intensified a manhunt for the wanted suspects, posting their photos — taken from video cameras and security footage — on major Internet portals. Shown under the heading of ‘Lhasa Public Security Bureau’s Wanted List of Criminal Suspects,’ the 21 people are accused of endangering national security, and cited for beating, smashing, looting and arson. One suspect is shown wielding a long sword and another is a mustached man who had been shown on news programs slashing another man with a foot-long blade.”

Chinese officials announced that two of the 21 most wanted rioters have already been arrested. In total, 170 people have turned themselves in, and an additional 24 others have been arrested.

Just foolish as “Algerie Francaise”. Tibetans are Tibetans, not Chinese and Chinese Chinese, not Tibetans.

Just like the Comuunist Chinese Gov. to try and use deadly force as in Tianamen Square. If China wishes to play in the world as a Super Power, then the rules change. The potential for disaster is great here, and their world face will suffer greatly now and at the Olympics. What are they so terrified of that must “crush” all with a different view of the communists? The Tibetans want to be left alone and practice their religion in peace. Anything other than that spells trouble for the Chinese.

When will the U.S. get a backbone and tell China to stop this. We need much more than John McCain saying “This is not acceptable”
Hooray for Nancy Pelosi, she is acting like a leader! We need to boycott the Olympics to show China that Americans don’t act this way! Pray for the Tibetans!

I am currently in China and the English language are showing what it going on. US media so bias it is unbelievable. What about the five poor girls who were burnt alive hiding from rioters in the store they worked, or the others who were stabbed or even the old woman who was thrown out her second floor window. No this not reported, sounds a bit like the leis of weapons of mass destruction the US media reported. America can not get hard with China as they owe them to many billions in loans and who do you think you are? The world police?

What a shame to see Nancy Pelosi took the photo op with Dalai Lama and the bloody riot in Tibet.
Please read the US gov. official documents regarding the 1959 Tibet uprising. The uprising was organized and supported by the U.S. for years leading to the event, armed by the military, and trained by the CIA. Very similiar to the event against Cuba.
Don’t forget Dalai Lama is just Ahyatolla Khomeini of Iran, a spiritual leader and the head of the Tibetann government. As the Leader of his government (in exile now), it is incredible to see him saying one thing and doing something else.

I strongly disagree with some of your guests’ opinion about Tibet independent movement.

Here are some factors about Chinese history with Tibet.

    1. From Yuan Dynasty ( 1271AD – 1368 AD ) Tibet is part of China.
    2. From Ming Dynasty ( 1368AD-1644AD ) Tibet is part of China.
    3. From Qing Dynasty ( 1644AD-1911AD) Tibet is part of China.
    4. Republic of China period( 1911AD ) Tibet is part of China.

Due the weak of Qing Dynasty, British gained control over Tibet as a colonial region. They treated Tibetan as slavery.

Prior to 1950, Tibet was till in slavery society, under the Dalai Lama’s regime, 80% Tibetan were slave and their children would be slaves for ever. It was the darkest, horrible society.

Dalai Lama met Mao ZheDong who was president of China at that time in 1954,he agreed to accept central government. Here is picture

(It seems I cannot paste the photo here, You all can find it if you did a little search on Chinese histroy about Tibet part.)

Right one was Dalai Lama. Center was MaoZheDong.

All the western people know Dalai Lama is exiled government and promote peace movement to get independent of Tibet, but most people don’t know the factor, in later 1950s, Dalai Lama was supported by CIA and British against Chinese government and forced India government to accept Dalai Lama as exiled Tibet government. Ever since Dalai Lama was funding by CIA for his independent campaign.

After 1950, all the Tibetan are not slave any more, and Chinese government spends 200 millions (about 40 million us dollar) each year on Tibet for building schools, hospitals, infrastructure.

If you want Tibet to be independent, ask them to read some history book about Dalai Lama’s slavery society before 1950 and how horrible it was.

Only Chinese government freed Tibet, not Dalai Lama free Tibetan.

If people really think about free Tibet which maybe independent nine hundred years ago,
    How about

    Britain: Scotland, Northern Ireland independent

    United States:
Free Texas republic or all the American pack up and go back to Europe.

    Canada:
Quebec independent, All Canadian leave the land back to Native people

    Japan:
    Hokkaido Independence, Okinawa Independence.

Since nine hundred years, Tibet has been part of China. Do some research on Tibet’s history before talking about Tibet’s independency.

If China wants to take its place among the world’s respected superpowers, it must recognize the autonomy of the Tibetan government and restore human rights, social justice and equality to the Tibetans.

Having said that, I hope and pray that the USA and other world superpowers take a firm stand against Chinese abuses and torture of Tibetan citizens including the monks. What is the United Nations doing?

I say boycott trade with China and boycott the Olympics.

  10. Vincent on March 23rd, 2008 1:50 am

The monks is busy to beat up people on the street.

The American is busy with Iran, Iraq, kosovo, oil price and a lot of stuff…and counting on the Chinese to buy their bonds.

The UN and EU has Dafur, somalia, Iraq, Iran, North Korea and Kosovo issue to deal with.

so maybe you have to leave a message that so call monks killing bystanders in Tibet for now. we will deal with it later in a orderly fashion.

I agree to Stand_For_The_Only_Ture’s comment. The US CIA had been funding the Dalai Lama. The Chinese Government is only after installing order in Tibet, for the growth and improvement of Tibet. Since Tibet had been part of China as history can tell.

To the poster who commented on Tibet being a part of China for 900 years,
I think you need to look at the history of the region more.

No Chinese Dynasty really went into the region. The Yuan did (some argue if its a Chinese or Mongol Dynasty) but they didn’t control it and it was for the most part independent. the Qing put more effort into integrating the region because it was a security threat as the Mongols were operating out of there, but it was for the most part, left alone. Only did the PRC really make an effort to exert control over it.

Then there’s still the point that the region was conquered in the first place, using whatever date you want to use.. and that the region is heavily and predominantly Tibetan in composition and culture.

Whether it should be independent or a part of China.. the answer is simple.. its up to the people who live there. This holds true for Hawaii, Quebec, or whatever region you want to throw. These people have lived there for generations and its their decision, not yours or mines.

  13. longlive china on July 29th, 2008 7:34 pm

do you think that every region with different culture should be independent? then, why some of the European Country have not recognize the independence of Scotland or Spanish Basque Region? the westerner are acting like they are the heroes of freedom and independence, but the truth is that they occupied and took other people land, that was what their ancestor did, and that is what they are trying to do now, with their fucking freedom and democracy propaganda. fuck the west
