Chad Rebels Attack Capital
Posted on February 2, 2008 - Filed Under Africa, CHad |
The situation in Chad remains unclear but we do know that rebels to the government have entered the capital and were attempting to move on the Presidential Palace. A high level German official told CNN that the parliament building was being ransacked.
The Washington Post reports, “Hundreds of rebels penetrated the capital of Chad on Saturday, clashing with government troops and moving on the presidential palace after a three-day advance through the central African nation, officials and witnesses said. Col. Thierry Burkhard, a French military spokesman, said groups of rebels gathered outside the capital, N’Djamena, overnight before 1,000-1,500 fighters entered early Saturday and spread through the city.
It has been difficult to get information in and out of Chad. If there are any citizen journalists who have any images or videos to share please email them to us and we will post them on Blogflict.
