Bush Pledges to Personally ‘facilitate’ peace negotiations

Speaking today to CNN, President Bush said he would personally “facilitate” peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis. Bush believes the formation of a democratic Palestinian state was the best way to end Mideast violence. 7 years after taking office and pulling the US out of the middle east peace process, Bush has suddenly changed his stance on US engagement in conflict resolution.
Nathan Brown, who studies the Middle East at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said last year: “The United States has taken itself out of the equation. And by doing that it is, in essence, allowing this confrontation to continue. The United States could step in…”
