Bush: Iran Intelligence Report is Warning Signal
Posted on December 4, 2007 - Filed Under Bush, Iran |
President Bush held a press conference today and declared that Iran is still a threat despite the release of an intelligence report which states Iran abandoned its nuclear bomb ambitions in 2003.
“Look, Iran was dangerous,” Bush said. “Iran is dangerous. And Iran will be dangerous if they have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon.”
Democrats were quick to pounce on the President and demanded a change in discourse from the administration.
There is one piece of this story that doesn’t seem to make much sense. In August, Adm. Mike McConell, the director of National Intelligence, informed the President that there was “new information” about Iran. However, the President did not ask McConell about this new information. Why not? If he was going to be giving speeches about Iran, wouldn’t the President of the United States want to know what was learned by his intelligence director? Apparently not. And that’s a problem.
The Brad Blog had a scathing critic of the situation in a post this afternoon.
