Bad Night for Obama, Worse Night for ABC

Are you kidding me????
That seemed to be the main consensus after the debacle that was supposed to be an important presidential debate. When was the last time you saw the hosts of a debate kill the last 15 minutes by taking almost constant commercial breaks and then showing the candidates sign autographs? Why wasn’t that time used to ask questions that matter to Americans and to the future of our country?
Here’s a thought - how about asking important questions? Last time I checked, the price of oil was hovering around $112 a barrel, food prices were soaring, the economy was headed into the toilet, and the climate crises was getting worse by the week.
Sure the hosts asked a few questions about Iraq and economics, but lets face it, this wasn’t as much a debate on policy as it was a debate on personal issues about the candidates. What a wasted opportunity and a shame that the voters of Pennsylvania had to listen to this instead of substance.
One report in England, calls this the dumbest debate in America, and wrote: “Stephanopoulos and Gibson deserve every bit of opprobrium being thrown their way. They delivered a noxious blend of smear, innuendo and diversion.”
Guardian America’s deadlineUSA blog issues its verdict with the headline: “Worst. Debate. Ever.”
Barack Obama took the most heat during the ‘debate.’ It wasn’t that all the questions were out of line, its that they were relentless and endless, and in some cases pointless.
Here are some user comments on ABC’s website about the debate:
…George and Charlie= narcissistic elite “journalists” trying to score a rating point, but asking questions that would yield a “F” in middle school journalism. This debate may be used for years in journalism classes, on how to not run a debate. Disney-who owns ABC- get better cartoon characters to run a debate. Elmer Fudd would do much better.
…This is the WORST debate I have ever watched. Never in my life have I been more disenchanted with the news media as a whole, especially a news organization such as ABC that I believed to have some sense of purpose to bring substantive information and perspective to the American people. Americans are tired of the snipping between the candidates and the lack of discussion about what each candidate will do to help the country. ABC News should be ashamed for presenting such a failure of a debate.
Is it any wonder most Americans are fed up with the media?
