Bachmann Strikes Back

Blogflict was one of the first blogs to report on the incendiary comments made by Rep. Michele Bachmann on MSNBC’s ‘Hardball.’ Her sad commentary on Obama harboring ‘anti-American’ views and calls for investigations to determine if members of Congress hold ‘anti-American’ views served to catapult her opponent, El Tinklenberg from also ran to virtual tie in the polls. Tinklenberg quickly raised over $1 million dollars in contributions, mostly from Americans who were disgusted at Bachmann’s radical views.

But then there is another set of Americans that don’t seem to mind them too much. In the past 11 days through aggressive appeals to conservatives around the country, Bachmann has raised $850,000. Conservative radio, blogs and other outlets have been helpful in rallying the base to Bachmann. In the final days of a race that can either way, Bachmann will now have enough money to be competitive.

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has raised $850,000 in the past 11 days through aggressive appeals to conservatives that she has been targeted for her beliefs, a top campaign consultant said.

“We’ve been telling people that her opponents were attacking her and trying to remove a real conservative,” said Ed Brookover with Bachmann’s media firm, Greener and Hook.

In reality, Tinklenberg initially raised so much money, not because people were trying to remove a ‘real conservative.’ Instead, it was because people want to remove a ‘real whacko,’ and you can quote Blogflict on this - that is what Bachmann is - a whacko. Anyone, of either party, who shares her views does not belong in the hallowed halls of Congress.

What makes matters worse is that in a debate this week, Bachmann denied she made those scurrilous claims.

The debate host, Gary Eichten, asked whether she still agreed with statements she made that the media should investigate members of Congress to find out whether they have anti-American views and that Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama might have anti-American views too. Her response to this question: “You know, Gary, that is not what I said in recent remarks,” she said.

You do not have to be Sherlock Holmes to find the transcript and read right from it. Here is exactly what Bachmann said:

MR. MATTHEWS: So you believe that Barack Obama may have anti- American views.

REP. BACHMANN: Absolutely. I’m very concerned that he may have anti-American views. That’s what the American people are concerned about.

Then later in the interview:

MR. MATTHEWS: Well, he’s a United States senator from Illinois. He’s one of the people you suspect as being anti-American. How many people in the Congress of the United States do you think are anti- American? You’ve already suspected Barack Obama. Is he alone, or are there others? How many do you suspect of your colleagues as being anti-American?

REP. BACHMANN: What I would say — what I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look. I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out, are they pro-America or anti-America? I think people would love to see an expose like that.

Bachmann doesn’t belong in Congress. The citizens of Minnesota will be much better off with El Tinklenberg representing them. But it is up to the citizens people of the 6th District to make a stand and vote against Bachmann’s brand of hate politics. Tinklenberg still needs your help. Through Blogflict, he has raised thousands of dollars. Consider making a small donation for him, or helping the campaign out by making phone calls into the district. You can read more about how you can help elect Tinklenberg at his website.
